What is the Pumpkin Race?

The Pumpkin Race is a hilarious and suspenseful event featuring handcrafted Pumpkin Racers competing in side-by-side races. Whether you're here to race, spectate, or cheer on your favorite pumpkin, the Pumpkin Race guarantees a day of unforgettable fun.

Pumpkin Racers come in all shapes, sizes, and speeds—some race with flair while others, well, just try to make it down the track! No matter the outcome, everyone has a chance to compete for the coveted Pumpkin Race Championship Trophy.

Pumpkin Racer Kits:

Need a Pumpkin Racer? Don't worry! You can purchase the official City of Manhattan Beach World Famous Pumpkin Racer Kit starting October 5th at the Hometown Fair, or at Manhattan Beach City Hall afterward. Kits are $35 before the event and $40 on race day.

• Pumpkin Pit Crew: Need help building your Pumpkin Racer? The Pumpkin Pit Crew will help you create and fine-tune your racer, ensuring it’s race-ready.
• Tinker Zone: Finish decorating or fine-tuning your Pumpkin Racer with tools, accessories, and decorations available in the Tinker Zone.
• Cheater Pumpkins: Think you can outsmart the race officials? Beware of the Mallet-O-Justice! Cheater pumpkins will be smashed in a dramatic display for all to see. No cheater ever prospers!
• Pumpkin Race Showcase Races: Before the official races begin, catch the Pumpkin Race Showcase featuring creative entries from the community.
