New art is coming to the library! Join in on Saturday, August 30, from 4:00–7:00 PM at the Malaga Cove Library Art Gallery for the opening reception of a special exhibition featuring the Pastel Society of Southern California.

This event celebrates the creativity and passion of local pastel artists, whose works capture vivid landscapes, portraits, and imaginative scenes in one of the most expressive mediums. Guests will have the chance to meet artists, learn about the process behind their work, and explore the collection before the exhibit officially runs from August 30 through September 15.

The Pastel Society of Southern California was founded after three artists—fondly known as “The Three Pastel Musketeers”—were inspired at the International Association of Pastel Societies meeting in 2007. Wanting to grow the popularity of the medium in Los Angeles, they came together with fellow pastelists, planting the seeds for what would become a thriving community of artists. Today, the society continues to uplift and showcase pastel work across Southern California, making this exhibition a meaningful part of their legacy.

Whether you’re a longtime admirer of pastel art or just discovering the beauty of this medium, the opening reception promises an evening of inspiration, conversation, and community. Light refreshments will be served, and admission is free.
