Community Art Supply Swap

Palos Verdes Estates Russell Nomura and Yoshiko Oest March 5, 2026

Date: Saturday, March 7, 2026
Time: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Location: Malaga Cove Library - 2400 Via Campesina, Palos Verdes Estates, CA 90274

The Community Art Supply Swap returns to Malaga Cove Library for its second annual event, bringing artists, makers, and creative hobbyists together for a day centered around sustainability and creativity. Held in the Malaga Cove Library Art Gallery, this event offers a welcoming opportunity to exchange gently used art supplies while connecting with others who share a passion for making and creating.

Participants who donated supplies ahead of time will receive VIP entry from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. During this early access hour, donors can browse the selection of available materials and choose items before the swap opens to the general public. From 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the doors open to all participants, allowing the broader community to explore the collection of donated supplies.

The goal of the swap is simple: keep usable materials out of landfills while helping artists discover new tools and inspiration. Supplies may include paints, pencils, brushes, yarn, fabric, sewing tools, craft materials, canvases, sketchbooks, art instruction books, and many other creative resources. Participants are encouraged to follow the event’s “bestie rule” when donating items, asking themselves whether the item is something they would feel good giving to a friend.

Donations for the swap can be dropped off at Malaga Cove Library and Miraleste Library between February 16 and March 3. Those who donate will receive a VIP entry ticket to the event. Items should be new or gently used and ready for immediate creative use. Materials that are damaged, hazardous, moldy, or non-functional will not be accepted.

Events like this reflect how libraries continue to serve as vibrant community gathering places, supporting creativity, sustainability, and lifelong learning. By bringing artists together to exchange materials and ideas, the Community Art Supply Swap creates a space where creativity and environmental responsibility meet.

This is why We Love South Bay Local. Community programs like this encourage resourcefulness, spark creativity, and help neighbors connect through shared interests right here in Palos Verdes Estates.
