Event Details:

  • Performance: Henry IV: Falstaff & the Boy Who Would Be King
  • Description: Shakespeare by the Sea presents an outdoor production of "Henry IV," a new adaptation combining both parts of Henry IV, directed and adapted by Stephanie Coltrin.
  • Setup: Audience members are encouraged to bring picnic baskets, jackets, blankets, and low-back beach chairs for a comfortable evening under the stars.

About the Play:

  • Plot: Before St. Crispin’s day and the reign of Henry V, young Prince Hal, the reluctant heir to the throne, spends more time with Falstaff than navigating court intrigues. With England at stake, Hal embraces his destiny, becoming the king who will lead his country to victory at Agincourt.

Venue Information:

  • Hesse Park: A large grassy field where audience members can place their beach chairs. Blankets are essential as the marine layer floats in by intermission, making layered clothing recommended.

About Shakespeare By The Sea (SBTS):

  • Background: SBTS is a nonprofit organization founded in 1998 by Lisa Coffi. Initially partnering with local city organizations to offer free performances, the first season saw over 3,000 attendees.
