The Hermosa Beach Fine Arts Festival has a rich history that began in 2002 when local artist Ken Klade founded the Hermosa Beach Art Walk. Initially a community nonprofit organization and art exhibition, the event aimed to promote arts education and appreciation.
Ken's vision was to create a high-quality art festival that advanced art education within the community. The early years of the festival featured local and regional artists displaying their work along upper Pier Avenue in downtown Hermosa Beach, complemented by live music and kids' activities.
For its first three years, the Art Walk was held on three Thursday nights in May, June, and July. In 2008, it evolved into a full-day weekend event and moved to its current location on the Community Center lawn. By 2009, the festival had expanded to a full weekend in June, solidifying its place as a key event in the South Bay's cultural calendar.
The presenting organization, Arts Group of Hermosa Beach, began offering scholarships for local student artists in 2008 and was recognized as a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization by the State of California. In 2015, the event was rebranded as the Hermosa Beach Fine Arts Festival to better reflect its status as the premier fine arts event in the South Bay.
The Hermosa Beach Fine Arts Festival is the primary fundraising event for the Hermosa Arts Group, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting art education and fine arts within the community. Proceeds from the festival support scholarships and donations to the art departments of local schools, helping to nurture the next generation of artists.
This is why we love South Bay Local – vibrant community events that celebrate and support the arts!
