Get ready to step into a world of visionary art at the Gallery of Hermosa with the opening of Thresholds, an immersive group exhibition running from September 20th through October 18th, 2024. Curated by Genie Davis, this exhibition brings together the unique perspectives of artists Hung Viet Nguyen, Angelica Sotiriou, Eileen Oda, Snezana Saraswati Petrovic, and Linda Sue Price, each exploring their own thresholds—points of entering or beginning—through a diverse array of artistic mediums.

From lush oil and acrylic landscapes to abstract neon art and otherworldly 3D-printed sculptures, these artists craft lush new worlds that capture the beauty of nature, the spiritual, joy, and loss. Visitors can expect to be transported into special and secret realms, featuring everything from stunning cliff top waterfalls and green-gold oceans to hypnotic neon works and abstract expressions of nature.

Featured Artists and Their Works:

Hung Viet Nguyen:
Nguyen’s work is a compelling, methodical exploration of oil paint that incorporates traditional art influences like East Asian scroll paintings, mosaic, and stained glass, while presenting a thoroughly contemporary expression. His labor-intensive pieces showcase mastery in texture and technique, revealing the rich depths of his creative process.

Eileen Oda:
Oda’s vibrant and spiritual works are a celebration of her deep connection to nature. Her artistic repertoire ranges from colored pencil to large-scale oil paintings and 3D canvas pieces, each reflecting a unique impressionistic and realistic blend that she describes as “an expression of the soul.”

Angelica Sotiriou:
Inspired by the Byzantine tradition of iconography, Sotiriou’s abstract works are multi-layered journeys of light and spirit. She uses her art to explore pathways, windows, and portals that uncover deeper truths and narratives, bringing a contemplative and spiritual dimension to her work.

Linda Sue Price:
Price’s abstract neon sculptures are crafted freeform without a pattern, making each piece uniquely her own. She explores how individuals perceive and respond to change, using her art to represent the dynamic and ever-shifting nature of personal thresholds.

Snezana Saraswati Petrovic:
Petrovic’s multimedia work draws on plastic, bioplastic, found objects, 3D printing, video, and augmented reality to create stunning, intimate landscapes of flora and fauna. Her art begins with a deep observation of nature and a study of symbolic meanings, transforming these elements into radiant visual experiences.

Curated by Genie Davis:
Curator Genie Davis has once again brought together a group of museum-exhibited artists to the Beach Cities, creating a radiant and immersive art experience for collectors and viewers alike. Known for her past work on exhibitions such as Leaving Eden at Keystone LA, Davis is set to present her international exhibition Windswept at Wonzimer Gallery in Los Angeles next spring. As a curator, Davis emphasizes the importance of the artist’s voice in her exhibitions, and her work on Thresholds is no exception.
