The History Behind the Fair
Downtown Torrance was once the bustling hub of the South Bay, with shoppers flocking from nearby cities via the Red Car Line. However, the opening of Del Amo Mall in 1961 shifted the center of commerce, leading to a decline in the area.

In 1978, the Downtown Redevelopment Project began restoring the charm of Old Torrance, but it wasn’t until the launch of the Torrance Antique Street Fair in October 1998 that the area truly came back to life. The fair was created by Julie Randall and Miguel Salazar, the successful producers of the Dominguez Hills Antique Flea Market, and has grown from just 25 vendors to over 200.

This vibrant monthly event not only brings life to Downtown Torrance but also highlights the community’s history and charm, making it a local favorite. The fair has earned accolades, including the Daily Breeze Reader’s Choice Award, and its founders received the prestigious Torrance Advantage Award in 2014 for their contributions to the city’s quality of life.

The Torrance Antique Street Fair is a perfect example of what makes South Bay special. It’s more than just a shopping event; it’s a celebration of history, community, and creativity. The fair brings together locals and visitors to enjoy the unique character of Downtown Torrance, fostering connections while supporting small businesses and vendors.

By preserving the area’s history and creating a welcoming space for people to gather, the street fair keeps the heart of Torrance alive and thriving.

Mark your calendar, bring your friends, and experience the charm of Old Torrance at the Torrance Antique Street Fair.

It’s events like these that celebrate our past and bring our community together. This is why We Love South Bay Local!
