If your child loves dogs or could use a confidence boost with reading, this is such a sweet event. Join Walteria Library on Saturday, November 15 at 11:00 am for BARK Reading to Dogs — a welcoming, kid-friendly program designed to help young readers practice in the most comforting way possible.

Children are encouraged to sit with trained therapy dogs and read aloud at their own pace. The dogs listen patiently, never judge, and create a relaxed environment where kids feel supported and safe. For many young readers, this simple shift — sharing a story with a friendly dog — makes reading feel easier, more fun, and far less intimidating.

The BARK program is especially helpful for children who are shy, hesitant, or still building fluency. Without the pressure of performing in front of adults, kids often find themselves reading with more expression, curiosity, and independence. It’s a wonderful way to nurture a love of books while building confidence one page at a time.

This event is free and open to the public. Families are welcome to drop in and enjoy a gentle morning at the library with a group of calm, well-trained therapy dogs who are ready to help kids shine.

Events like this highlight why We Love South Bay Local — supportive spaces where children can learn, grow, and feel encouraged in ways that are both meaningful and fun. It’s a reminder that community programs, big or small, can make a lasting difference for young readers.

Whether your child is a budding bookworm or just beginning to explore stories, BARK Reading to Dogs offers a warm and positive experience that helps reading feel joyful.
