Spend an evening exploring the beauty and mystery of the ocean at Exploring the World of Whales, a free community lecture hosted at the Manhattan Beach Library.

This special presentation features global expedition photographer Kirill Umrikhin, who brings more than 20 years of experience capturing wildlife and leading expeditions around the world. Through powerful imagery and firsthand stories, he will share insights into whale species across the globe and the environmental challenges they face both locally and internationally.

Kirill’s work goes beyond photography. His expeditions, workshops, and public outreach efforts focus on highlighting the beauty and fragility of the natural world while encouraging conservation awareness. Attendees can expect an engaging, visually rich experience that blends adventure, education, and environmental advocacy.

The lecture will appeal to anyone interested in whales, marine life, wildlife photography, or ocean conservation. Participants will learn about various whale species, the threats facing whales and dolphins, and Kirill’s unique journey as a global photographer working in challenging conditions.

Presented by the OTS Coastal Bottlenose Dolphin Project in partnership with LA County Library, this event offers a meaningful opportunity to connect with marine science and storytelling right here in the South Bay.

This is why We Love South Bay Local. Programs like this bring global perspectives to our local community, creating accessible opportunities to learn, reflect, and deepen our appreciation for the natural world.
