Star Party at Madrona Marsh offers a unique and educational way to spend a winter evening in Torrance, inviting the community to explore the night sky in a relaxed and welcoming setting. Held at the Madrona Marsh Nature Center, this free program combines astronomy education with hands-on stargazing, making it accessible and engaging for all ages.
The evening begins at 6:00 pm with an indoor lecture led by knowledgeable astronomers from the Riverside Astronomical Society. During the talk, attendees will learn about what is currently visible in the night sky, from planets and stars to seasonal constellations. The lecture takes place regardless of weather conditions, ensuring there is always something to learn, even if cloud cover rolls in.
Following the lecture, weather permitting, participants will head outside to the parking lot for telescope viewing. This portion of the evening allows guests to see celestial objects up close with guidance from experienced astronomers who are happy to answer questions and share their expertise. If fog or poor visibility prevents telescope viewing, the educational portion still makes the evening worthwhile.
