Build Your Best Sand Snowman at the Annual Hermosa Beach Sand Snowman Contest!

Hermosa Beach Russell Nomura and Yoshiko Oest November 7, 2024

The holiday season might be short on snow here in the South Bay, but that doesn't mean we have to miss out on the fun of building snowmen! It's time once again for the Hermosa Beach Sand Snowman Contest, an annual tradition where Californians get creative with sand, water, and a whole lot of holiday spirit.

How It Works Bring the whole family, grab your shovels and sand pails, and get ready to compete in building the best sand snowman on the beach! At 9 am, the sand sculpting kicks off, and teams have until 11:15 a.m. to complete their masterpieces before judging begins.

Expect plenty of fun, teamwork, and a festive flurry of creativity as families dash between the shoreline and their build sites with buckets of wet sand. Be ready for a beach full of families working on their sculptures, from traditional snowman forms to totally unique and whimsical creations.
