Torrance Russell Nomura and Yoshiko Oest March 23, 2026
Date: Sunday, March 29, 2026
Time: 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Location: Columbia Park - 20420 Madrona Ave, Torrance, CA 90503
The City of Torrance will host the 13th Annual Cherry Blossom Cultural Festival at Columbia Park, bringing the community together for a full day of culture, performances, and springtime celebration. Set among the park’s cherry blossom trees, the event offers a chance to slow down, gather outdoors, and experience the beauty and meaning behind this seasonal tradition.
From 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the festival will feature a full lineup of live performances throughout the day. The main stage will include a variety of cultural presentations, beginning with Umeboshi LA’s matsuri-style performance, followed by a mikoshi procession from Rafu Mutsumi Kai. Additional performances include traditional Chinese dance by South Bay Little Angels, Japanese koto music by the LA Koto Ensemble, Nihon Buyo dance by Fujima Seiyumi Kai, shamisen music by Matsutoyo Kai, and a vocal performance by Sawami. The day will close with a taiko drumming performance by Asano Taiko U.S., LATI Gumi, and their youth performance team.
Beyond the performances, the festival invites guests to experience the event at their own pace. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs and picnic under the cherry blossoms while exploring craft vendors and food options available for purchase. The setting creates a relaxed environment where you can move between performances, browse handmade goods, and enjoy time outdoors.
The cherry blossom trees at Columbia Park, originally donated by Soka Gakkai International, serve as a meaningful backdrop for the event. In Japanese culture, sakura symbolize renewal, hope, and the fleeting nature of life. Their short blooming season is a reminder to pause and appreciate the present, which makes this gathering feel especially thoughtful and intentional.
Community partnerships play an important role in bringing the festival together. Organizations including the North Torrance Homeowner’s Association and the Torrance Craftsmen’s Guild contribute to creating an event that reflects both cultural tradition and local connection. Educational and interactive elements throughout the festival also provide opportunities to learn more about sustainability, art, and cultural practices.
Free parking and a shuttle service will be available to help make attending the festival more accessible. Whether you plan to stay for the entire day or stop by for a portion of the event, the festival offers a welcoming way to experience something meaningful in the South Bay.
This is why We Love South Bay Local. Events like the Cherry Blossom Cultural Festival create space for culture, connection, and shared experiences, bringing the community together in a way that feels both thoughtful and memorable right here in Torrance.
